what makes us tick?
Our mission is to enable individuals, families and society to thrive as dignified and joyful human beings at work, home and play in our exciting but disruptive technological world.
What we do
We’ve made it our aim to deliver original research, online content and in-person talks/seminars, which aim to equip individuals, families, organisations, government and churches to life faithfully, safely and purposefully in this tech-saturated age.
We do this by applying Christian wisdom and beliefs to some of life’s biggest questions, and seeing how well they rise to meet the our contemporary challenges.
Who we’re for
We’re not just for Christians. We’re for anyone who takes the rich history and influence of our Christian heritage seriously and wants to examine its continuing significance for life today.
We think Jesus is God and that his claims are true. By witnessing the power of Christian teaching to shape our lives for the better (even in the contemporary technological challenges we face today), our prayer is that you would come to see the Christian message as not as originating from man, but from God.
Core beliefs
Human beings are made in the image of our creator God, and are therefore of inherent value and dignity.
Serving others is among the most noble of human virtues, as we imitate the loving sacrifice of Jesus who served us and gave himself for our sin.
Technology and AI present one of the greatest challenges (and opportunities) which humanity has ever faced.
We can’t avoid being impacted by technology, but we can control how.
If we don’t respond rightly to 3) we will either become slaves of technology (and the few who control it), or we will tragically fail to embrace the legitimate benefits which it could afford us.
Technology should serve the unchanging needs of humanity, including friendship, family, belonging, meaningful work, redemption and hope.
However, technology itself cannot be our ultimate redemption or hope. Only Jesus can offer (and deliver) enduring and fulfilling life.
Designing a world in which 6) is true is best thought of as an earth-shaped engineering challenge, involving developing solutions spanning matters of technology, family, law, culture and faith.
In order to solve the challenge in 8), we need to align the interests of the individual, the family, organisations, churches and governments so that they operate in synergy.
Pervading all this is the need for spiritual renewal, and the the urgent need for people to recognise the reality of 7). No mere company, politician or technology can give us lasting life, but only Christ can, through faith.
Topics we address
We like to research, distil and communicate things that really matter. A lot of things matter, yes. It’s not hard to find things that matter. The challenge is in identifying what deserves our attention the most.
These are some of the topics that we spend most of our time thinking about:
The theology of technology
Purposeful productivity
Security, privacy & safety
Tech, tools & AI
Digital skills & working online
Horizon scanning
The general principles which shape the type of content we create are:
Derivative from, and/or consistent with, a Biblically-shaped Christian worldview
Clarity and conciseness, so that what’s important is not just heard but understood
Actionable and effective, because every worthy insight (however abstract) can ultimately be integrated into a purpose-driven mode of being
Reasoned and well-informed, to give confidence that, to the best of our ability, it can be trusted
Important, not trivial, for the purposes of living life well
The ideas we share are usually not our own. After all, great ideas are rarely new. We study a range of fields, including psychology, physics, politics, business and economics, history, theology, computer science and philosophy, among others, to extract their most poignant insights. The concepts which we discover and consolidated and refined, over countless hours of research and experimentation.
We don’t have everything figured out – not by a long shot! But we do believe that important things are worth sharing. Not only that, but we all have a duty to share them. Living a coherent, meaningful and effective life should not be a privilege for those on the inside, but a choice available to us all.
